Samwella Lerno is a Supply Chain Management graduate, she loves writing and is most passionate about peace and integration, education, youth inclusion in decision making, feminism. She is the co-founder of Bright Future Foundation, a community-based organisation in Samburu that advocates for both girls and boys education; ensuring they remain in school and complete their education safe from retrogressive cultural practices such as Early Marriages, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Beading, Cattle Rustling among others.

Samwella is a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) at Youth in Action (Y-Act), an initiative for Amref Health Africa and the Advocacy Accelerator that aims to mentor, support and increase the capacity of youth advocates to influence youth policy and resource priorities in the areas of gender equality and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) at national, sub-national and grassroots levels in Kenya.

She coordinated monitoring of the Kenya’s 2017 general elections as a Cohesion Monitor’s Coordinator at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and was Siasa Place’ Elections Safari correspondent in Samburu County. She is a Political Leadership and Governance Fellow of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung 2016, Transformational Leadership Fellow of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.

I believe that education liberates girls, helps them find their voices, be assertively confident in speaking about issues that affect them. Assertively confident girls grow to be strong women who won’t be cowed by the societal pressures.
