In 2017, Samanthah Maina vied for Member of County Assembly Kileleshwa ward under Ukweli Party. Board member of Mwafrika Mwenzangu, a local community based organization that aims to help citizens keep their leaders politically accountable through street cafes, holding meetings with elected leaders and facilitation of civic and political education.
International women’s is a day when we celebrate women’s achievement in different spheres from, however it acts as a constant reminder that we are not there yet, that we still have to continue to push for women empowerment, gender equality and rights. I look forward to a day when we don’t have to negotiate on our rights, a day when I don’t have to be celebrated, a day that I just BE, without it deemed extraordinary because women being women wouldn’t be a new thing but a norm.
